Summary
The Assistant Tasting Room Manager supports day-to-day operations of the tasting room and helps lead the team to deliver warm, efficient, and engaging guest experiences. This role works closely with the Tasting Room Manager on staffing, training, inventory, and service execution, and takes the lead when the Manager is off duty. The ideal candidate is a natural leader with hospitality experience, a strong work ethic, ensuring that every visitor enjoys a memorable experience.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Service
- Lead by example in providing welcoming, knowledgeable, and memorable service to all guests.
- Assist with daily floor operations including tastings, food service, and sales.
- Support winery events and catering as needed.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support the team, ensuring a consistent guest experience.
- Help recruit, train, and coach team members to uphold service and operational standards.
- Maintain daily schedules, monitor attendance, and coordinate shift coverage.
- Serve as the manager-on-duty as needed.
Operations & Sales
- Open and close the tasting room using Toast POS, including cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation.
- Monitor and restock inventory, and supplies; assist with ordering.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
· Understand, and be in compliance with, all policies, procedures and laws related to food handling, sanitation, and alcohol service within a restaurant.
- Support wine sales goals and promote wine club memberships through guest engagement.
- Assist with merchandising of wine and gift displays for a strong visual presence.
Communication & Collaboration
- Provide feedback and recommendations to improve team performance and guest satisfaction.
- Communicate clearly with staff and company leadership team as needed.
- Support special projects and seasonal initiatives.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a restaurant, tasting room, or hospitality environment
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Prior experience supervising a team
- High-energy, outgoing, and friendly with excellent interpersonal skills; committed to delivering a professional and memorable guest experience
- Strong communication skills; able to communicate clearly and professionally with team and guests
- Hard-working, dependable, and team-oriented
- Able to stay calm, effective, and composed in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of state and local serving guidelines preferred
- Available to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and some holidays
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods
- Able to bend, stoop, lift, and move up to 40 pounds
