What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adaptive Swim Instructor position at Hockomock Young Men's Christian Association, Inc?
The Hockomock Area YMCA is hiring Adaptive Swim Instructors to work at the North Attleboro and Foxboro branches.
The Adaptive Swim Instructor teaches recreation-level swim lessons modified and adapted for swimmers with diverse abilities. As part of a larger Inclusion department, this program focuses on each swimmer's unique skill set. The YMCA developed a water safety program for children with differing abilities to ensure all swimmers have an opportunity to learn. The Adaptive Swim Instructor supports families as part of an intake process, provides customized support, and guides parent education and staff training.
Essential Functions
- Implements an inclusion curriculum following YUSA standards
- Assesses swimmers capabilities and progress through small group lessons
- Creates a positive and inclusive environment.
- Utilizes modified approaches, including but not limited to, visuals and equipment to meet swimmers’ needs
- Sets the tone of every lesson, guiding swimmers through the skill development with both direct instruction and activities
- Communicates brief session notes to the parent at the end of every session
- Participates in the set up and clean up the pool materials
- Makes swimming a fun experience through creative games and activities
