- Carries a pager and responds to incidents as dispatched.
- Performs normal and related firefighter duties at the fire scene.
- Assists with proper maintenance of fire vehicles, equipment, building, and other departmental items.
- Participates in regular and special drills and training sessions as required.
- Actively participates in Community Involvement Programs delivered by the department.
- Miscellaneous duties/responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be available at all times (twenty-four hours per day seven days per week).
- Required to carry fire department pager at all times.
- Required to live and work within a reasonable distance from assigned station.
- Must attain Michigan Firefighter I certification within two year of appointment.
- Must be physically able to perform required duties and to pass agility test.
- Required to attend regular and special training classes.
- Required to maintain the minimum attendance average specified in department SOGs as a condition of continued employment.

- Constantly exposed to weather, including extreme heat and wet/humid conditions. Occasionally exposed to extreme cold.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, radiation, explosives, and toxic/caustic chemicals. Occasionally required to work in high exposed places.
- Constantly requires carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds, frequently requires lifting and pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Occasionally required to push objects in this weight category.
- Occasionally requires climbing and crawling. Occasionally requires reaching, including overhead reaching.
Annual stipend of around $7,000. Paychecks delivered monthly.
Fire Department sponsorship through the Ottawa County Fire Academy.
Future potential opportunities for Fire Department sponsorship through Emergency Medical Technician training.
Excellent in-house training.
Specialty team opportunities including HazMat, Technical Rescue, and Drone Teams.
