Job Title: 911 Dispatcher/Jailer

We are seeking a dedicated and detail oriented 911 Dispatcher/Jailer to join our emergency response team. The 911 Dispatcher/Jailer will be responsible for receiving, evaluating, and dispatching emergency calls while providing clear and calm communication to callers and first responders. This role requires quick thinking, sound judgement, and the ability to handle high-stress situations to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls professionally, gather critical information to assess the nature and severity of each situation.
• Prioritize and dispatch appropriate emergency response units, including police, fire, and medical personnel, to locations as needed.
• Provide callers with clear instructions on safety, first aid, and other critical actions to take before first responders arrive.
• Maintain accurate records of calls, incidents, and dispatches in the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
• Work collaboratively with other dispatchers, emergency personnel, in public agencies to coordinate responses effectively.
• Monitor multiple radio frequencies, communicate with field units and provide updates on incidents or changing situations.
• Remain calm and professional during high-stress or emotional calls demonstrating empathy while maintaining objectivity.
• Participate in ongoing training sessions and exercises to maintain skills and knowledge of emergency response procedures and protocols.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; additional education in emergency response or related field is a plus.
• Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
• Ability to handle high-stress situations, think quickly, and make decisions under pressure.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills and comfort in using dispatch software and radio equipment.
• Flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and multitasking are essential.
• Will sit for extended periods of time in a dispatch center, monitoring calls and radio traffic.
• Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner for incarcerated individuals.
• Pass out medication to inmates as prescribed.
• Accept or deny inmate requests in accordance to policy and procedure.
• Other duties for the jail as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 48 per week
