What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher - Health Assisting CTE Instructor position at Holyoke Public Schools?
Job description:
- Teaches the Massachusetts Health Assisting Frameworks and modifies them to different learning styles and student backgrounds
- Teaches occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field.
- Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Maintains records of the students, e.g. grades, attendance and discipline
- Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, instruments, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aides.
- Guides students in the selection and performance of appropriate activities and the attainment of required competencies
- Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed.
- Mentors students to recognize the importance of postsecondary education and training and to impart the importance of a strong work ethic.
- Works with the CTE Director and Co-op coordinator in making sure students have work-based experiences, including co-ops.
- Instructs students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment.
- Controls the storage, maintenance and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom.
- Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual student progress.
- Evaluates each student’s performance, knowledge, and skills in the course being taught, as well as prepare progress reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher degree in Nursing
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License
- Minimum of five years recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to health assisting at a hospital and/or nursing home.
- At least one year of full-time teaching experience preferred
- Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
- Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
- Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
- Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
Required license(s):
- Massachusetts Certification in Health Assisting, 9-14, Health Services Cluster Vocational Instructor.
