Title - Laboratory Clerk

Location - Brooklyn NY 11234

Shift - 3pm- 10 : 30 pm- work every other weekend

Duties :

This is a position, which involves limited independent judgement. Performs clerical work requiring application of various work methods and procedures and familiarity with departmental functions, policies, and practices.

• Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical / technical / service / administrative tasks :
• Makes simple postings to various departmental records by the use of the LIS
• Must be courteous when routing calls to different departments in the laboratory.
• Conducts limited research of records for information relating to verification or location of other records or information.
• Provides laboratory results upon request to physicians, nursing staff and other authorized personnel
• Faxes results to physicians or other departments within and outside of the organization, with the appropriate consent.
• Has extensive knowledge of the Laboratory Computer system in order to accession specimens and look up results in an efficient manner.
• Participates in the department's performance improvement activities.
• Maintains patient / employee confidentiality in the management of information.
• Observes the Health Care System's compliance policies.
• Observes all safety procedures and precautions :
• Observes all HIPAA and Infection Control regulations as per hospital policy
• Has knowledge of SDS location within the laboratory
• Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients,families and significant others.
• Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staffand extended community.
• Manages efficient workflow through clear communication with co-workers, contributes to a team approach.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.Must handle biohazardous specimens in order to transport them into their respective working area.
