What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher - Walter Lawson Children's Home position at Hoosier Care Inc?

We are looking for a full time Special Education Teacher and offering a Sign-On Bonus $2,500!

Will follow traditional school calendar. Typical hours are 8am - 3:30pm.

 

TITLE: Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid Illinois Teaching License with LBS I Approval
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: Classroom Paraprofessionals and/or student teacher if assigned to program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL
• Serves as Case Manager
• Actively participates in IEP Team meetings
• Performs student observations and testing as assigned
• Interprets findings of assessments
• Provides report of students evaluation or progress for IEP
• Coordinates IEP Team members in formulating an appropriate Individual Educational Program (IEP) based on a comprehensive evaluation of assessment, information and compiles all documentation required for alternate assessments
• Plans, designs and implements the IEP
• Develops lesson plans for instructional materials
• Provides individual and small group instruction, when appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION
• Assesses current level of student attainment of knowledge and skills prescribed in IEP’s. Continually evaluates student progress during the school year to determine present needs and future program direction.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT-INSTRUCTIONAL IMPROVEMENT
• Remains current with present trends in instruction and evaluates curriculum and methodology uses according to students needs.
• Seeks new and appropriate instructional methods and materials if those that exist are inadequate for specific student needs.

SUPERVISION
• Trains instructional assistants and student interns, as assigned, in the use of assessment and instructional strategies.
• Provide staff support by conducting yearly evaluations for paras assigned.

RECORDS AND REPORTS
• Keep classroom attendance
• Provide parents with reports
• Maintain accurate records of assessments, evaluations, IEP information, student schedules, progress data, progress reports, and significant event and contacts.
• Ensures classroom consistency by providing and maintaining a substitute notebook including attendance, lesson plans, daily schedule and student and classroom information.

CLASSROOM CARE AND MAINTENANCE
• Maintain a climate conducive to learning.
• Provides for proper storage and care of equipment and reports losses, theft, vandalism, and damage promptly.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Attends faculty meetings, committee meetings and other conferences established by the principal.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by Walter Lawson Children’s Home and/or self selected professional growth activities.

EFFECTIVE MOTIVATION
• Sets a positive example with fellow workers
• Arranges relevant activities and applications to help students acquire skills.
• Provides effective instruction and a supportive environment that fosters positive attitudes and work behaviors.

HEALTH / SAFETY PRACTICES
• Adhere to health and safety practices using infection control, correct body mechanics, and proflex belt whenever lifting.
