Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Practitioner to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist in providing care and support to individuals in a mental health setting. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of our patients.

Coursework Qualifications:

A) Practitioner is qualified if they hold a master’s or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields

B) Completion of at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in Behavioral Sciences or related fields and:

  • Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with:
  • Mental illness, substance use disorder,
  • Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes 30 hours of additional training on mental illness, recovery and resiliency, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.
  • Has completed a practicum or internship that required direct interaction with adults or children served, and was focused on behavioral sciences or related fields; or
  • Is working in a MHCP-enrolled adult or children’s day treatment program.

Experience Qualifications:

A) At least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with:

  • Mental illness, substance use disorder, or
  • Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes 30 hours of additonal training on mental illness, recovery and resiliency, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.

B) At least 2,000 hours of work experience and receives treatment supervision at least once per week until meeting the requirement of 4,000 hours in the delivery of services to adults or children with:

  • Mental illness, or substance use disorder; or
  • Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes 30 hours of additional training on mental illness, recovery and resiliency, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.

Responsibilities

- Implement behavior management techniques to support patients

- Conduct individual therapy sessions under the supervision of licensed professionals

- Collaborate with case managers and care coordinators to ensure comprehensive care for patients.

-Active Listening: The ability to listen attentively, ask thoughtful questions, and demonstrate empathy is crucial for building strong therapeutic relationships with clients.

-Ability to conduct Functional Assessment, Individual Treatment Plan: The skill to collaboratively develop personalized treatment plans that address the unique needs and goals of each client is vital.

-Can help the clients develop a Basic Living and Social Skills.

-Communication and Documentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively document client progress, coordinate care with other providers, and clearly explain treatment recommendations.

-Self-Awareness and Self-Care: The ability to recognize and manage one's own personal biases, emotions, and stress levels to maintain professional boundaries and prevent burnout.

-Continuing Education and Professional Development: A commitment to ongoing learning and skill-building to stay up to date with the latest research, best practices, and emerging trends in the field of mental health.

Required Skills:

- Familiarity with behavior management techniques

- Exposure to social work practices.
