What are the responsibilities and job description for the House Parent position at Hope Home Ministry?
Pay: $1,500.00 per month plus room and board – vehicle provided for work related purposes
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Providing direct daily supervision of the home and residents. This includes managing the residents’ activities and schedules, communicating with volunteers and other employees, monitoring behavior of residents, enforcing rules, redirecting misbehavior, and providing crisis intervention as needed.
- Spending time with residents of the home. This includes a wide range of activities such as running errands, cooking, accompanying residents to appointments, teaching life-skills, helping with school work, exercising, planning fun activities to keep residents encouraged and engaged, assisting with community service, attending church, Bible studies and recovery meetings.
- Mentoring residents by listening and engaging in meaningful and life-giving conversations as well as times of prayer when appropriate.
- Documenting daily and weekly activities, progress, concerns and incidents.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the home. This will include creating a weekly chore chart and cleaning, organizing, monitoring resident chore times, teaching residents how to clean properly, sorting and storing donations, helping with yard maintenance and pet care.
- Traveling. This includes driving out of town to pick up or drop off residents, accompanying residents on family visits and appointments, and traveling for outings and overnight trips with residents for recreation.
- Attending trainings, both in person and online, related to Hope Home Ministry’s work. Reading books and other resources for training purposes as specified by Program Director.
- Caring for babies and children. This may include direct care of children or supervising the care of children who are living in the home or who are children of former residents that we are supporting through aftercare efforts.
- Helping with general tasks related to daily operations of the home and organization. This will include tasks such as running errands, making phone calls, folding brochures, writing thank you cards, and helping plan and work at fundraisers to support the organization.
Expectations: The right candidate for this position will be a steady person who loves teenagers and has a strong faith in Jesus. She will be joyful, consistent, and able to work well with little/no supervision after training. She will be flexible as to what is needed from her on a daily basis and will be willing to perform a variety of tasks to ensure that her job is done well in support of the ministry. She will be patient and not easily given to frustration. She will show her faith through her actions as much as through her words. She will have the ability to form meaningful and lasting relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries. She will be assertive and able to enforce rules and boundaries while maintaining a calm and kind demeanor toward our residents. She will have a “long view” of investment in the lives of our residents, understanding that we plant seeds and allow the Lord to do his work in his timing.
