Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate

Hope House, Inc., a non-profit domestic violence service agency, is currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Shelter Advocate to work with adults and families residing in the agency's domestic violence shelter.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions)

• Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and domestic violence education to adult survivors of domestic violence
• Answer the crisis hotline and respond to various needs of callers
• Monitor the shelter environment, including answering the door, staffing the front desk area, and mediating community living issues with shelter residents
• Create a welcoming and healing environment in shelter
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule

AVAILABLE SCHEDULE:

• Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 1pm-11pm (40 hours/week)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited program of social work or comparable human services field; OR appropriate training and experience; and
• Possess or have the ability to obtain certification in basic first aid and CPR.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Previous experience working with survivors of domestic violence

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, hear and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to focus. Must be able to perform CPR continuously for 15 minutes.
