Description

The Instructional Paraprofessional will work with students in the classroom and in small groups under the supervision of a licensed specialist. The Para will deliver intervention lessons, progress monitor, and reteach as needed to ensure student successful completion of the task. The Para works closely with SPED, ELD, general education, and students in the MTSS process, and supports other students as needed and appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide differentiated support to address the needs of EL, SPED and general education students as directed, manage resources, and collaborate on intervention processes. 

Demonstrate knowledge of HOPE Online curriculum as well as intervention programs.

Ensure that all students have access to and receive appropriate instruction to meet grade-level content and language standards and to address academic gaps as assigned.

Use strategies to actively engage students during instruction. 

Implement an intervention program with fidelity adhering to time, grouping, and lesson plans to accelerate student learning.

Gain proficiency in administering and supporting learning sites in the administration of HOPE Online required assessments (AIMSWEB, iReady, CMAS, ACCESS, SAT/PSAT) and Edgenuity performance tasks.

Provide support in implementation of Tier 2 individual student plans (Read, ELL, IEPs, RtI/MTSS). 

Responsible for providing individual and/or small group instructional strategies to students with special needs under the supervision of licensed staff.  

Make independent decisions within appropriate parameters; implementing team designed behavior support plans; monitoring and supporting students during special activities, preparing and modifying instructional materials; collecting data for IEP goals and behavior plans.

Monitoring and providing feedback on student progress, maintaining student confidentiality and adapting to changes in responsibilities and schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities

Support students under the supervision of a professionally licensed specialist.

Attend all learning site and HOPE faculty/staff meetings and PD as appropriate.

Work directly with the licensed specialists (weekly meetings required).

Develop and maintain collaborative, positive, effective relationships with all stakeholders.

Coordinate with all stakeholders (Learning Site Staff, Site Coordinator, Virtual Instructor, family, etc.) to develop, implement, and maintain a shared plan for consistent communication with (or about) students. 

Use culturally responsive and effective communication strategies to build and maintain trust with all stakeholders; including communicating belief in the capacity of all learners to achieve at high levels (high expectations, post-secondary readiness, growth mindset).

Adjusts practice and prioritization of other tasks based on the needs of the Learning Site and HOPE.

Sets personal goals related to student engagement outcomes and seeks opportunities to improve personal professional practice through professional development and reflection.

Other duties as assigned.



Requirements

EDUCATION, LICENSURE AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required

Associate degree or equivalent advanced training or demonstrated knowledge and ability to assist in instruction of reading, writing, and math or in school readiness skills

1 year experience working with students in a school setting


Preferred

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience as a SPED paraprofessional or intervention paraprofessional in secondary literacy or math


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: 

Required

Commitment to social justice and equitable education for all and support of community based learning

Cultural proficiency and interpersonal/relationship building skills

Fluency and literacy in English, excellent oral and written communication 

Excellent technology skills – Online curriculum, Google Docs, Drive and Gmail, MS Office, Student Information and learning management systems

Proactive and detailed oriented, ability to prioritize and be self-directed

Ability to handle multiple projects and meeting deadlines

Flexibility to adapt to unexpected and frequent changes, based on organizational needs

The school day consists of direct contact with the students

Preferred

Oral and written fluency in Spanish


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

The Instructional Paraprofessional position reports and is evaluated by the Academic Liaison and/or Executive Director Learning Site Support and does not supervise any HOPE or Learning Site employees. 


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FUNCTIONING REQUIREMENTS:


 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: 

Compare, analyze, communicate, instruct, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate

Communicate effectively

Use near vision to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for computer use, reading and instruction 

Use hands for extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation

Operate office machines and computer equipment

Be subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, pushing and pulling

Occasionally lift objects up to 25 pounds


LOCATION, WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

Work is routinely performed in a school environment with moderate noise level. This position works primarily at the assigned learning site. Travel to, from and between locations is the responsibility of the employee. Compensation for mileage is per the HOPE Mileage policy.
