Position Title: Community Educator (Youth Specialist)

Supervisor: Director of Community Engagement

FLSA Status: Exempt

Employment Status: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Department: Community Engagement

Compensation: $45,000

HopeWorks’ Community Engagement staff is invested and engaged in altering the systems and imbalances of power that maintain the status quo and that are root causes of sexual and intimate partner violence - including racism, transphobia, poverty, homophobia, inequities/disparities, and xenophobia. The Community Educator is responsible for coordinating and implementing community engagement projects on virtual platforms and in settings such as, but not limited to, community centers, businesses, faith communities, schools and human service agencies. This Community Educator is tasked with the coordination of the Youth Leadership Project, facilitation of youth and adult educational programs, training for professionals, and collaboration with community partners for racial, economic, and gender justice. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in liberal arts or social-science fields such as Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and/or Gender Studies, Public Health, Ethnic Studies.
  • Experience working in sexual and/or intimate partner violence prevention.
  • A deep understanding of violence prevention, as well as gender equity, transformative justice, public health and/or empowerment theories.
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in workshop facilitation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Experience and/or training in program coordination preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills along with computer proficiency.
  • Skilled in the use of social media, and platforms such as Canva, Constant Contact, Zoom, and Mentimeter.
  • Be a creative, self-motivated, responsible team player with a sense of humor.
  • Proficiency in at least one language other than English (encouraged to apply but not required).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversight of The Youth Leadership Project, including training Youth Specialist, planning, promotion, facilitation, program evaluation, curriculum, and program materials. Track and compile monthly statistics and assist with the creation of grant reports.
  • Conduct educational workshops, trainings, and outreach (virtual platforms and in-person) to organizations such as, but not limited to educational institutions, community agencies, faith communities, local businesses, and human service agencies in Howard County.
  • Coordinate and facilitate community-wide events with local organizations to build or strengthen community partnerships and engage local leaders and stakeholders.
  • Planning and assisting with awareness events, Step 1 Trainings and other special events.
  • Attend training and professional development regarding the prevention of sexual and intimate partner violence, project management, community organizing and leadership skills.
  • Additional assignments and tasks as required.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
