Position Summary & Qualifications
The ACT Peer Support Specialist collaborates with other members of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team to provide kind, empathetic, support, coaching, mentoring, and education for individuals. This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position that includes tasks or duties (i.e., driving) that the employer in good faith believes could affect the safety, health or reputation of the Agency, participants, the employee performing the task or others. In all duties listed in the job description, the ACT Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing recovery peer support services to assigned caseload and documenting services provided. This position also creates a positive experience for individuals served where Kindness Matters
Qualifications Required
- Recovery Peer Support Specialist Certificate (or ability to get it within 3 months of hire).
- Self-identify as an individual who has their own lived experience of mental health conditions, and/or substance use, for which they have sought support and has an experience of sustained recovery (greater than one year) to share those experiences in peer-to-peer interactions.
- HS diploma or GED; has been a consumer and is willing to share those experiences in peer-to-peer interactions.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Possess valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, telephone, and reliable transportation as position requires community-based services.
- Certification in Crisis De-escalation (ie. CPI) training will be provided if the candidate does not possess active certification.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to type and working knowledge/familiarity with computers and electronic clinical record keeping.
- Must obtain and maintain a fingerprint clearance card and pass a background check.
- Prior to providing services obtain Tuberculosis screening to confirm that individual is free from infectious tuberculosis and additional TB testing or screening questionnaires will be performed annually.
- CPR/First Aid Certification, training will be provided if the candidate does not possess active certification.
- Possess the physical, mental, and cognitive ability to perform specific clinical and/or tasks required by the position without posing a direct threat to the safety and security of patients.
