Horizon Veterinary Specialists provides emergency and critical care services 24/7 to small animal patients of Ventura and the surrounding counties. We offer seven day a week Internal Medicine services. Our Emergency department supports walk in emergencies and referrals from the primary veterinarian community, and we have a fully equipped ICU. Our emergency and soft tissue surgical needs are supported by VetSurg, a local surgical specialty group.

Horizon Veterinary Specialists is privately owned, founded by five-board certified veterinarians who bring over 70 years of combined experience in the fields of internal medicine, emergency, and critical care. Our practice’s state-of-the-art facility is truly unique. The founders ensured that Horizon Veterinary Specialists’ facility would provide advanced equipment with a highly trained and compassionate team all focused on providing excellent patient & client care. Horizon Veterinary Specialists is seeking to add another Emergency Clinician to join our enthusiastic & skilled team of doctors and support staff. You would be joining our fantastic team of highly trained and experienced emergency clinicians, and three ACVECC diplomats.

In our 8,000 square foot emergency and specialty hospital, you will have broad opportunity to utilize your emergency and critical care skills. If emergency surgery is your passion, you will find ample opportunities to pursue this, as well as many other aspects of veterinary medicine. We are looking for an individual with a positive attitude, confidence, and who is detail oriented and diligent. The applicant should have great communication skills and excellent bedside manner.  

Our staff is dedicated and skilled. They will provide you with the support you need to practice high quality medicine. We have managers and administrative support that will take care of the details so you can focus on giving your patients the best care possible.

ER doctors are responsible for the following:

• Accepting emergency walk in and transfer cases from our primary veterinarian community
• Overseeing care of in-hospital patients in the ICU (shift-dependent)
• Collaborating with specialists, fellow emergency doctors, and general practitioners to ensure the best care for all patients while fostering a cooperative and professional attitude
• Effective and professional communication with clients and referring veterinarians

• Participation in company events such as CE lectures to promote Horizon and our services
• Participation in the improvement of internal processes, procedures and operations
• Lead by example and provide excellent leadership and support for the technical staff
• Participate in the training of staff in a professional and supportive manner
• Foster a cooperative and professional attitude with coworkers, administration, primary veterinarians, and clients
• Alternate scheduling of major holidays

Requirements:

• Experienced emergency veterinarian (Internship training preferred) 1-2 years
• Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
• Possessing excellent communication skills
• Committed to the promotion of our mission statement and company culture
• Capable of handling a varied, busy and complex caseload

Licensing:

• Legally licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the USA (required)
• DEA Licensed, or eligible for licensure (required)
