What are the responsibilities and job description for the WEEKEND PACKAGE Med Surg Charge RN - Day Shift position at Horn Memorial Hospital?
Hiring a full time Weekend Package Charge RN to work on the Med Surg Unit. This position will be paid a premium rate of pay to work every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 6:30am to 7:15pm. Chosen applicant will have choice of working 2 out of 3 weekends, 5 out of 6 weekends, or every weekend. See weekend package details below.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate positive and effective nursing leadership as Charge RN, leading MSP staff and patient care on MSP and assisting in ED when needed.
- Makes assignments of nursing staff according to needs of patients and competency levels of staff.
- Acts as role model for staff through effective communication, knowledge, clinical expertise and direction to staff to ensure quality care is provided and practice standards are met.
- Creates a professional environment that promotes teamwork. Must have the ability to work well with others in a team. Demonstrates professionalism and works cooperatively with others including members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Provides direct patient care and/or assists staff with patient care as needed. Takes patient assignments as needed for patient and staffing needs. Administers prescribed medications, IV's, and treatment plans, performs nursing assessments to formulate, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for medical-surgical and pediatric patients. Provides patient and family education needs.
- Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize patient care and duties.
- Integrates policies, procedures, standards, and healthcare provider orders to carry out quality patient care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a RN in the State of Iowa or a compact state. BSN preferred but not required. Must have certification in Basic Life Support. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, and telemetry course required within 6 months of hire.
Experience:
- At least one year of hospital and leadership experience as an RN preferred. Experience in Emergency Department preferred. Charge nurse mentorship will be provided to hired candidate.
WEEKEND PACKAGE OPTIONS:
Two (2) out of three (3) weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday):
Employee’s base rate of pay is set based on the Iowa Hospital Association Salary Survey and employee’s work experience. In addition, the employee receives an hourly premium differential when working their eligible weekend package hours.
Employee will receive a set number PTO hours to be used annually.
Employee is eligible to participate in the hospital’s 401(k) retirement plan.
Employee is not eligible for other hospital benefits (health insurance, dental, vision, disability, etc).
Five (5) out of six (6) weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday):
Employee’s base rate of pay set based on the Iowa Hospital Association Salary Survey and employee’s work experience. In addition, the employee receives an hourly premium differential when working their eligible weekend package hours.
Employee will receive a set number PTO hours to be used annually.
Employee is eligible to participate in the hospital’s 401(k) retirement plan.

All Weekends during the year (Friday, Saturday, Sunday):
