Job Title: Center Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Location: 1034 W. Broad Street, Horseheads, NY 14845, Arnot Mall Playroom
Classification: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Salary: Starts at $18–$20/hour (negotiable based on qualifications and experience)
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Center Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Horseheads Family Resource Center (HFRC), overseeing programming, supervising part-time staff and volunteers, maintaining supplies, managing the physical environment, and ensuring smooth communication with families and the broader community. This leadership role fosters a warm and welcoming environment that promotes family engagement, school readiness, and community connection.
Hours
- Tuesday through Friday and 2 Saturdays per month, with flexible scheduling based on program needs and availability. (Tue 3-7, Wed. 9-2 & 3-7, Thurs. 9-2, Fri. 9-12, Sat. 9-2)
- Position averages 25–30 hours per week, depending on programming and staffing levels.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Open and close the Center during program hours.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment daily.
- Monitor and maintain all physical spaces and supplies.
- Implement and uphold HFRC health and safety policies.
- Staff and Volunteer Supervision
- Coordinate schedules and task assignments for support staff and volunteers.
- Provide training, guidance, and regular check-ins to ensure program quality and consistency.
- Support professional development opportunities for staff as appropriate.
- Program Delivery and Support
- Lead or facilitate programs such as Music & Movement, Story Time, and Playful Learning.
- Ensure programming aligns with HFRC’s mission and goals.
- Adapt programs and materials to meet diverse family needs.
- Community Engagement and Communications
- Serve as a key point of contact for families attending the Center.
- Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors.
- Manage social media platforms and digital outreach (including program announcements and updates).
- Inventory and Purchasing
- Purchase and stock supplies at both Center locations.
- Manage craft materials, sensory bins, and informational displays.
- Track supply usage and manage budget responsibly.
- Administration and Evaluation
- Collect and submit attendance logs, registration forms, and program evaluations.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Executive Director.
- Assist with grant tracking and compliance documentation as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in early childhood, family support, or community programming.
- Prior experience supervising staff or volunteers preferred.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) and basic tech tools (email, Google Drive, Canva preferred).
- Reliable, insured transportation and a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, while collaborating closely with leadership.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; use carts to move items; engage in physical play with children including sitting on the floor and bending.
- Comfortable working in a shared-space environment that requires setup and takedown.
- Must adhere to HFRC policies, including ADA accommodations for scent and chemical sensitivity.
- Background and child abuse clearances will be conducted upon offer.
