What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Hospital for Veterinary Surgery?
The Hospital for Veterinary Surgery, the first surgery-exclusive veterinary hospital in New York City, is seeking to further build our clinical team with a compassionate Veterinary Assistant with an intellectual curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. This is a newly created position.
We are a collaborative team of passionate veterinary professionals, practicing in a clinician-designed, 10,000 square foot facility, having opened in July 2023. What You’ll Do:
- Learn and practice safe and proper restraint for injections, blood draws, radiographs, ultrasounds, catheter placement, and surgical preparation
- Ensure patients are comfortable at all times
- Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, and runs
- Keep the hospital clean and sanitary
- Sterilize the surgical suite and surgical equipment
- Restocking
- Walking dogs to relief room
- Table turn over
What we’re looking for:
- At least 1 year of experience as a veterinary Assistant
- Confident restraint skills, experience with ICU care, basic hospital knowledge, experience administering injections, and the management of IV catheters
- An intellectual curiosity and compassion
- Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to handle multiple tasks
- Someone who loves to learn and acquire new skills
- A willingness to take initiative
- A candidate with the ability to quickly pivot and assist where needed
