GENERAL:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Delivery of anesthesia care; pre-anesthesia assessment (collection of data), formulate specific anesthesia plan, and monitor patients’ physiologic condition consistent with all types of anesthesia 
  2. Checks all anesthesia equipment prior to the beginning of the first surgery of the day.  Reports malfunctioning or missing equipment to the Surgical Services Director Immediately
  3. Prepares the patient for surgery and outpatient procedures administers pre/intra/post anesthesia.  Performs an assessment immediately prior to induction of anesthesia and documents this in the medical record.  Attends to patients as needed; allay fears and answer questions as necessary for the patient
  4. Functions and is actively involved with the PAT process to help assure patients are safe to proceed with anesthesia.  This includes provider to provider communication and discussion with nursing staff. 
  5. Document pertinent information on patient’s chart promptly, completely and accurately.  Obtain consents with appropriate signatures. 
  6. Displays ability to intubate most patients with ease, manages the patient’s airway and pulmonary status through the perioperative process
  7. Performs a smooth induction of anesthesia for patients requiring general anesthetic and performs smooth patient emergence and recovery from anesthesia addressing pain and anesthesia side effects. 
  8. Prevents and manages complications through selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering medications, fluids or ventilator support in correct dosages and methods
  9. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
  10. Stays with the patient as long as needed and until responsibility for proper patient care has been assumed by other qualified individuals.  Provides follow-up evaluation and care related to anesthesia complications and/or side effects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The CRNA shall:

 

  1. Graduate of an anesthesia training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of

a Nurse Anesthetists and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

  1. Current Wyoming RN License that complies with the State regulatory requirements relating to the practice of anesthesia.
  2. Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person.
  3. Certified by the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
  4. Prefer at least 5 years’ experience in General and Regional Anesthesia.
  5. Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person.
  6. Demonstrate good organizational abilities.
  7. Seeks proficiencies in computer applications.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and is knowledgeable in metric and apothecary.   

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

  • BLS; ACLS; NRP; PALS

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers.  Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities.  Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.

While filling this position, the employee must regularly lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.  This position also requires walking or standing to a significant degree.  This position also requires reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, and hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
