Program Coordinator ' Rose M. Singer Center (Rikers)

Reports to: Program Director, Visiting and Family Assistance Program

Status: Full-time, Salaried

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00-5:00pm, weekends when needed are mandatory

Salary: $75,000 a year

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator will provide services to justice involved women detained at Rose M. Singer Center and in the community under the supervision of the Director of the Visiting and Family Assistance Program.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise Visiting and Family Assistance Program staff including but not limited to Visiting Service Specialist, Drivers, Reentry Specialist, and Family Advocate
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee all aspects of these programs' visitation components including in person visits and virtual visits
  • Work closely with the per diem drivers for scheduling of door-to-door transportation of families from their homes to Rikers Island for in person visitation on Wednesday, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays
  • Assist in planning events such as Community Engagement Day, Reentry Resource Fair, and community-based events for the families of the incarcerated participants
  • Identify and coordinate mother/child(ren) enrichment opportunities for participants to take place during visitation
  • Works in partnership with the Program Director to ensure successful achievement of assigned programs, service goals, and objectives
  • Provide support in the other program areas as necessary to ensure coverage
  • Oversee admission and discharge from the program, when required, in consultation with the Program Director
  • Maintain appropriate client information and documentation in electronic databases and hard files, and submit accurate data on regular basis
  • Attend internal staff meetings, trainings, and supervision, as well as related external meetings and trainings with resource partners
  • Comply with all jail procedures, processes and requirements including all security regulations and PREA requirements
  • Perform additional department or agency related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Master's degree in related field such as psychology, social work, mental health counseling, or criminal justice required
  • LMHC or LMSW preferred
  • Must have experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, and/or co-occurring substance use disorders
  • Experience working with individuals involved in criminal legal system preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to provide effective services and produce accurate written documents in a timely fashion
  • Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally- inclusive manner
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of team
  • Must be able to have solid, productive boundaries and work cooperatively with DOC and uniformed staff
  • Successful completion of background investigation by DOC as part of volunteer application process
  • Computer and technical skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs

Specifications For Physical Requirements

  • Flexibility to work evenings or occasional weekends, as needed
  • Ability to travel across the five boroughs and to the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island
