DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is Houston's municipal animal shelter and adoption center. BARC is looking for one applicant that possesses the following qualities:
- Efficient and works under minimal supervision.
- Can perform daily duties including ability to lift and sustain 50 pounds and hitch and unhitch trailers.
- Provides a professional attitude in a fast-paced work environment.
- Commits to customer satisfaction, both internal and external, with a highly developed sense of integrity.
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Has great listening skills.
- Is detail and process oriented.
- Has strong organizational ability.
- Possess a strong work ethic and team player mentality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Loads and unloads animals from trucks.
- Transports animals for BARC.
- Cleans, checks and services vehicles and reports maintenance needs.
- Maintains proper documentation of animal transport.
- Logs, delivers, and maintains vendor supplies.
- Coordinate transport lists.
- Works on special assignments and at organized events to promote BARC, perform adoptions and educate citizens within the community.
- Educate the public on all current BARC information (Adoptions, Spay/neuter, Wellness, Licensing etc.)
- Performs other special duties and projects, as assigned.

The position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions. Work in indoor/outdoor weather conditions. There are frequent exposures to extreme levels of temperature, air pollution, noise pollution, chemical gases and substances, and/or risks from contagious diseases or physical trauma conditions of a short-term to intermediate term nature.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires high school diploma or a GED.
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
CERTIFICATION
Must obtain State of Texas Animal Control Certification within nine months of employment in classification.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
PREFERENCES
** Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
Preferences shall be given to candidates with 2 years of experience driving hitched trailer and animal handling experience.
Need some Microsoft Suite experience.
