Description: Primary function includes assisting medical providers in clinics with direct patient care, examinations and treatment plans. Provides interactions with patients, family members and staff; coordinates interdepartmental patient care activities while maintaining nursing standards under the supervision of the Medical Staff and Clinic Manager in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Howard County Medical Center.

Duties:
- Inspect patient files to ensure completeness of clinical record before examinations.
- Escort patients to rooms and prepare them for examinations.
- Take weight, height, vital signs and medical histories upon patient arrival.
- Record and maintain laboratory, x-ray and other test date in patient's chart.
- Schedule patient referrals to other specialists per provider request.
- Assist patients in getting to other departments such as Lab and Radiology as needed.
- Assist Providers with patient examinations and procedures.
- Prepare medications and give injections.
- Upon approval of the Providers, communicate test results to patients.
- Call the pharmacy with medication refills and note in patient charts per the Provider's request.
- Assist with phlebotomy as needed.
- Screen clinical calls for Providers and handle those that do not require their input.
- Apply dictation to charts.
- Give patient instructions on tests not performed in the office.
- Assist with the scheduling of patients for tests and x-rays per Provider request.
- Fax patient information to other facilities per the request of the Provider.
- Demonstrate professional behavior to providers, patients and other staff members.
- Maintain patient flow from waiting area to exam rooms, and keep patients informed of unexpected delays.
- Demonstrate ability to remain calm in emergent and stressful situations.
- Work efficiently with all clinic staff.
- Willingly accept responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain adequate supplies, drug inventory and track expiration dates as well as log medications in and out.
- Ensure all rooms are clean and supplies have been replenished for future use.
- Maintain immunization records for children.
- Take messages from nursing homes and other offsite Clinics.
- Current licensure as a LPN or RN is required. Duties and pay will vary based on licensure and qualifications.
- Minimum of 35 hours per week. 1/2 to Full day off during each week depending on hours throughout each week. One Saturday morning required about every 8 weeks.
