Job Summary - The head coach is responsible for leading, guiding, and mentoring the women's softball
program in a positive Christian manner, including compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA), and American Southwest Conference (ASC) regulations. The coach accepts and delegates tasks from
the Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics. The coach provides leadership for a program that
contributes to the holistic development of students.
Minimum Qualifications – A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
Three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience is
required. A master’s degree and college playing experience is preferred. Applicants must support the university
mission statement and be an active member of a local evangelical church. Must have and maintain a current
Texas driver's license at all times. Must be able to travel away from home at least 50% of the time.

Job Summary - The head coach is responsible for leading, guiding, and mentoring the women's
softball program in a positive Christian manner, including compliance with National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA), and American Southwest Conference (ASC) regulations. The coach accepts
and delegates tasks from the Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics. The coach
provides leadership for a program that contributes to the holistic development of students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the
Director of Athletics.
1. Lead the softball program based on proven Christian integrity and ethics consistent with the
University Mission Statement
2. Possess expert knowledge of skills and strategies related to softball
3. Lead and supervise the softball coaching staff
4. Monitor, mentor, and coach student-athletes participating in the softball program
5. Coordinate and supervise the recruiting process
6. Coordinate practice schedules
7. Schedule games
8. Supervise fundraising campaigns
9. Supervise marketing campaigns
10. Coordinate program travel
11. Supervise facilities and equipment maintenance (Lady Jacket Park - Softball Complex)
12. Address safety and security concerns. Stop any activity that is dangerous to the student-athlete
or other students
13. Administer all budgets related to the softball program
14. Assist with supervision of Chapel/Student Assembly
15. Supervise academic success initiatives for student-athletes (class attendance, tutoring
attendance, etc.)
16. Seek opportunities to participate in professional organizations, activities, and development
(association membership, conference attendance, publications, etc.) Represent HPU at
conferences, trainings, retreats, etc
17. Evaluate the softball program. Participate in University assessment activities, institutional
effectiveness programs, and strategic planning
18. May teach one to three credit hours per semester
19. Coordinate compliance with all university, NCAA, and ASC policies and regulations
NCAA and ASC Rules and Regulations - The coach must remain in compliance with all NCAA and
ASC regulations, including but not limited to the following:
a. Playing and practice seasons
b. Coach involvement in recruiting efforts
c. Pre-season and post-season workouts must be voluntary, open to all students, and may
not involve any athletically related activity.
Supervisory Responsibilities - Directly supervises softball coaching staff, including full-time
coaches, part-time coaches, graduate assistants, and volunteer coaches. Carry out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with the University’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving
problems.
