Anesthesia TechnicianRole SummaryHoward University Hospital is seeking an experienced Anesthesia Technician to support safe, efficient, and high-quality anesthesia care across perioperative and procedural environments. This role is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment and supplies, assisting anesthesia providers during procedures, and ensuring operating rooms and anesthetizing locations are fully prepared to support patient care. The Anesthesia Technician plays a critical role in supporting surgical readiness, emergency response, and patient safety.What You’ll DoPrepare, set up, clean, and maintain anesthesia machines, IV poles, monitors, pumps, transducers, and related equipment in operating rooms and anesthetizing locationsAssist anesthesia providers with room preparation for scheduled, emergency, and trauma casesSet up IV infusion pumps, blood warmers, rapid infusion systems, and cardiac output monitoring equipmentPrepare and flush arterial, PA, and CVP monitoring lines as requestedAssist with IV starts, arterial blood sampling, and point-of-care testing as assignedMonitor, stock, and replenish anesthesia supplies, medications, emergency kits, and gas cylindersTroubleshoot anesthesia equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacement parts as neededClean and disinfect anesthesia equipment and work areas in accordance with Infection Control standardsAssist with patient transport to and from the operating room or critical care areas when requiredCommunicate professionally and collaboratively with anesthesia providers, nursing staff, patients, and familiesSupport training and orientation of new staff and residents on anesthesia equipment and supply processesPerform other related duties consistent with the role and department needsRequired QualificationsEducation & TrainingHigh School Diploma or GED requiredCompletion of an Anesthesia Technician training program requiredAssociate degree preferredExperienceFour (4) years of Anesthesia Technician experience or closely related anesthesia support experienceCertificationsAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of anesthesia equipment, procedures, and support processesAbility to troubleshoot anesthesia machinery and equipment issuesAbility to respond effectively in emergency and high-stress situationsStrong attention to detail and adherence to safety and infection control standardsEffective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical teamsAbout Howard University HospitalWith more than 150 years of caring for the Washington, DC community, Howard University Hospital is a nationally recognized academic medical center and the nation’s only teaching hospital located on the campus of a Historically Black University.
