What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Adjunct Faculty Pool position at howardcc?
This posting is a pool for those interested in teaching credit ESL (English as a Second Language) courses offered at HCC. These courses cover a variety of reading and writing skills as well as researching and using information. Some ESL courses may require a lab instructor to assist with instruction and student feedback. The department chair/coordinators will review applicants for these positions when a need arises.ENGL 083, 084, 085, 086, and 087 are designed to teach academic reading, writing, and oral communication skills for multilingual students who speak English as a second or other language, using an integrated approach that supports overall language learning. Students will apply critical thinking skills and information literacy skills to analyze readings, engage in academic listening and speaking tasks, and write multi-paragraph compositions at a level of accuracy and fluency appropriate for intermediate and advanced learners of academic English.Adjunct faculty may teach 1-3 courses each semester, depending on schedule and availability. At HCC, adjunct faculty are invited to participate in professional development (including Faculty and Professional Learning Community), and there may be opportunities to engage in certain faculty teams or special projects. There may be added opportunities to work as a lab instructor and/or tutor student.
