Join our growing team! Howmet Aerospace is now seeking to fill a Toolmaker position in its Winsted, CT facility.

Summary

This position will build, inspect, and maintain fixtures and gages to close tolerances ( 1-.0002). Maintain product integrity and quality through gage inspections that require close tolerances of /- .0002.

Essential Functions

  • Build and rework gages and fixtures.
  • Design changes on tooling fixtures.
  • Diagnose and correct fixture and gage problems.
  • Oversee acceptable tool design for tool room rework ability.
  • Perform machining and grinding of details.
  • Perform surveillance on gages and maintain certification.
  • Provide floor support.
  • Partner with engineering and the layout dept.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Maintain certified toolmaker status.
  • Actively participate, promote and comply with all EHS and Quality programs and policies.
  • Follow policies and procedures as outlined in Employee Handbook.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Two years technical college or trades school certification required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability to problem solve complex issues.
  • Familiarity with computer operations

Experience:

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years tool making experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; push or pull with proper equipment. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Some areas have lifting equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Equipment Used:

  • Includes but is not limited to: Various inspection equipment such as height masters, indicators, micrometers, comparators. Various tool room equipment: surface grinders, Bridgeport, drill presses, etc.
  • Various tool room/inspection equipment.

EHS Requirements

  • Expected to assist in the implementation of EHS Values and policy statements and accompanying principals.
  • Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulations.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report all job-related illness and injuries (Per Employee Handbook).
  • Report all safety, health and environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Attend all EHS training.
