Our Savannah Operations is a part of our Howmet Structures Systems and is a heavy industrial Forging manufacturing plant located in Midway, Georgia. We employ approximately 160 people and growing exponentially. We have an immediate opening for a dynamic Machining Engineer to support our growing business.

Essential Functions: This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
- Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the machining processes associated with the production of aerospace closed-die forgings.
- Track machining process performance as a function of materials or parts machined, equipment, personnel used.
- Support operations with technical guidance associated with machining practice.
- Initiate and control cost reduction projects to achieve targets established by the business unit.
- Use CAD software to review parts; CAM software to review machining programs.
- Document departures from approved practice for internal as well as external review.
- Cooperate with process design and product development teams to identify best practices.
- Review new and revised technical (material, process, quality) specifications, as necessary.
- Determine process capability as a function of part family, material, machine, down to specific geometric features.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is rarely exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical engineering field from an accredited institution and 2 years of manufacturing experience.
- In lieu of a bachelor's degree, equivalent combination of education and work experience (i.e. associate's degree in an engineering or technical engineering field and 4 years of manufacturing experience, etc.) will be considered.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. "Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical engineering field from an accredited institution.
- 5 years of experience in a production machining facility.
- Six Sigma Green or Black belt certification preferred.
