Summary
The Staff Land Surveyor II (SLS2) is responsible for completing assigned tasks under the direct supervision of the Group Leader, Project Manager or Project Land Surveyors. The SLS2 is expected to apply the concepts learned through required education, and common sense to solve specific surveying or engineering related tasks as assigned. Seeks guidance as appropriate from more senior staff and applies acquired knowledge to related assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collects necessary topographical survey data to be used in the completion of engineering projects.
- Conducts field surveys and collects field information concerning land surveys under the direct supervision of a licensed Land Surveyor.
- Conducts preliminary surveys.
- Provides construction staking.
- Assists with maintenance of survey equipment and vehicles.
- Reviews job specifications and plans field work to ensure compliance with established project scope and budgets.
- Downloads and processes survey data to create base map and digital terrain models.
- Operates independently utilizing current hardware and software, including robotic total station survey equipment and GPS equipment.
- Uploads alignments, control and data from CADD into survey equipment for field layout.
- Conducts research of public records in connection with land surveys.
- Performs boundary closure calculations and traverse adjustments.
Education and Experience
- Must possess an associate’s degree in Surveying (or equivalent) or a Bachelor of Science in Surveying, or another applicable field from an accredited college or university (preferred).
- Two to four years of Survey and field inspection experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Surveyor In Training (SIT) license preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Advanced knowledge of CADD software and engineering automation tools.
- Strong time management, communication, and mechanical skills.
- Must possess strong technical verbal and writing skills. Must be able to read and interpret technical literature and engineering plans, correctly operate technical analysis equipment.
- Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to independently apply engineering knowledge toward solving assigned tasks and activities.
