General Description

The On-Site Lead and Nurse Practitioner is a dual-role position responsible for providing high-quality nursing care in an occupational medical clinic while also serving as the on-site lead for a Medical/Health Physics/Industrial Hygiene contract at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). This position serves as the primary point of contact for the contract, ensuring seamless communication with the IDIQ Manager and MSFC personnel. In addition to clinical nursing duties, the On-Site Lead will oversee the daily operations of the contract, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and protocols, and will be instrumental in coordinating between the team and NASA.

How You Will Fulfill Your Mission

On Site Lead

  • Manage the daily operations of the Occupational Health and Safety contract, ensuring adherence to all relevant standards and protocols.
  • Oversee the Health Physics and Industrial Hygiene programs, ensuring compliance with NASA, OSHA, and other federal regulations. Each program has a designated lead responsible for managing and executing day-to-day operations, while you provide overall leadership and ensure alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Ensure that all occupational health services meet regulatory standards (NASA, OSHA, NIOSH) and maintain accreditation and certifications for the clinic, including CLIA and other relevant licenses.
  • Identify and execute measures to increase clinic operational efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and wellness programs, injury prevention initiatives, and employee medical surveillance programs.
  • Serve as the point of contact for NASA management, ensuring open communication on contract performance, safety concerns, health initiatives, and program improvements.
  • Lead emergency response protocols related to health and safety issues at the center. Ensure staff training and preparedness for emergency medical situations and hazardous materials incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records of medical and health physics activities. Oversee the completion of required documentation, including patient records, exposure reports, and clinic evaluations.
  • Conduct performance reviews, oversee personnel actions (hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions), and ensure proper staffing levels are maintained to meet contract requirements.

Clinical

  • Serve as the Chief Nurse overseeing nursing operations and protocols in the clinic.
  • Assist with clinical aspects of health and wellness programs, including medical screenings, preventive care, and health education.
  • Provide primary healthcare services, including work-related exams, injury treatment, and occupational health surveillance, in collaboration with medical and safety teams.

Specific Knowledge/Certification Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) and active Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Alabama.
  • At least 5 years of experience in occupational health or primary care, with a strong background in clinical management.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Proven experience in managing health programs, ideally in a government setting.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and NIOSH standards and best practices in occupational health and safety.

Preferred Qualification

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or COHN-S certification.
  • Experience in Health Physics and/or Industrial Hygiene.
  • Prior experience in a NASA or government contract environment.
