JOB TITLE: Lead cook
DEPARTMENT: Elderly
CLASS: Full-Time/Non-Exempt; 40 hours/week
SALARY: $16.59 – 23.74 per hr.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The role involves assisting the Kitchen Supervisor in food preparation and serving meals to Elderly Clients. Additionally, it requires transporting meals to homebound clients daily. The responsibility includes keeping a record of the homebound participants and obtaining signatures from participants who received meals. Preparing and serving food must follow the prescribed Health Department (Tribal or Indian Health Services) rules and regulations and sound sanitary practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the kitchen supervisor to coordinate tasks to fulfill elder meal obligations.
- Supervises, coaches, and develops assigned employees in food preparation.
- Follows menus and recipes.
- Supervises and trains others politely and positively.
- Assigns and coordinates tasks so daily work is accomplished promptly.
- Monitors employee’s performance and corrects to ensure accuracy.
- Ensures food is ready and served at posted times.
- Follows the dress code: good hygiene, hair covering, closed-toe, and rubber-soled shoes.
- Models positive customer and co-worker relations.
- Delivers positive customer service to senior center participants and co-workers.
- Oversees the daily operations of the kitchen, including staff.
- It is crucial that the kitchen adheres to the local and federal regulations and requirements for food preparation.
- Assists in preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch for homebound, pick-up-and-go clients according to the USDA food guide plan for the elderly.
- Inspect food upon delivery for damages. Must be dated and rotated food using the FIFO method.
- Help clean and sanitize the kitchen area.
- Record refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily. Also, record the cooking and holding temperatures of cooked food throughout the day.
- Deliver meals to the homebound.
- Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure that vehicles work correctly.
- Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.
- Present bills and receipts and collect payments for goods delivered or loaded.
- Load and unload trucks, vans, or automobiles.
- Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers.
- Turn in receipts and money received from deliveries.
- Maintains records such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements following regulations.
- Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
- Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in a leadership role in a kitchen setting for two years.
Necessary Requirements:
- Possess a valid Driver’s License and be eligible for the Tribe’s insurance
- Must pass a background investigation.
- Submit to and Pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
- Experience in the field of food service preferred.
- Breaking making (i.e. tortillas, frybread, dinner rolls, and biscuits).
- ServSafe Food Manager Certificate or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
- Must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card or be able to obtain one within three months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Physical and Abilities:
- The position requires you to be physically able to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods, walking, stooping, and reaching. Be physically able to meet the demands of delivery to and from homes, frequently getting in and out of a vehicle.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand written food documents. As well as the ability to communicate and work well with others.
- Must have skill in planning, coordinating, and timing the sequence of steps required to have menu items ready at serving time.
- CPR/First Aide Certified or obtain one within 3 months of employment.
Other:
- Must be able to attend training and travel while employed with the organization.
