Job Summary:

Human-I-T is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tech Refurbishment Associate to join our team. In this role, youll be responsible for evaluating, lightly repairing, and preparing donated electronics for reuse or resale. This is a hands-on position requiring technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to data security and safety. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of promoting digital equity and sustainability by maximizing the value and functionality of donated technology.

This role is based in a secure, NAID AAA and ISO-certified facility, ensuring top-tier data security and operational integrity. To maintain a safe and compliant workplace, all new hires must complete a background check and drug screening before starting. Our warehouse environment includes active equipment, material handling, and requires constant attention to safety.

Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Assessment and Testing:

  • Evaluate donated electronics to determine their condition, functionality, and potential for reuse or recycling.
  • Use diagnostic software to comprehensively test device components, document results, and make informed decisions about next steps.
  • Research and stay current with emerging tools, electronics technologies, and testing techniques to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Repair and Refurbishment:

  • Identify and install replacement parts for malfunctioning or damaged devices, balancing cost-effectiveness with quality.
  • Perform repairs to meet functional and cosmetic standards for resale or donation, including advanced troubleshooting of hardware components.
  • Collaborate with team members to address complex technical challenges and share repair techniques and best practices.
  • Continually enhance your technical skills by staying updated on industry developments and incorporating new repair methods.

Data Security and Compliance:

  • Safely wipe or destroy data on storage devices following NIST 800-88 and NAID AAA certification standards.
  • Document data sanitization processes and ensure all procedures meet compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records for all refurbished devices, including serial numbers and repair details.

Safety and Workspace Management:

  • Follow all safety standards and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational training in IT repair or electronics is a plus.
  • CompTIA A certification or similar technical qualification is highly preferred.

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven experience in electronics repair, IT hardware, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, testing software, and repair techniques for computers, laptops, and other electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of data security protocols, including wiping and physical destruction of storage devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory systems and record-keeping for tracking repairs and components.

Technical Abilities:

  • Proficiency in handling small tools and equipment used for repairs, such as screwdrivers and diagnostic devices.
  • Knowledge of hardware components, including motherboards, RAM, and storage drives.

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and handling small, intricate components.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Familiarity with NAID AAA and ISO certification compliance is a plus.
