About us

The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) has a part-time position open for Animal Care Attendant (ACA), with focused duties in our cat, kitten and small animal areas, as well as general operational support.

ACA’s are responsible for the care and maintenance of our kennel areas. They are first in the line of defense against disease and are integral in maintaining a healthy environment for our animals. You will work both in a team environment as well as independently. Your duties will include providing exceptional care to every animal we are presented with.

The primary responsibility includes cleaning and sanitizing cat kennels and small animal cages, as well as areas that support overall shelter population. This includes cleaning animal dishes, crates, mopping, laundry, trash removal, etc.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to: daily monitoring for health & behavior, feeding and animal enrichment.

The ideal candidate for this position may have experience in a kennel setting, although we are willing to train committed new team members. Experience handling cats & small animals is a plus. You should:

  • Be able to work independently, following standards of care without direct supervision.
  • Have a positive attitude and work in a fast paced, changing, and sometimes stressful environment
  • Be able to follow detailed protocol when advised verbally, in-writing or through hands-on training
  • Have excellent follow through on details
  • Be able to communicate with team members in a positive & productive way
  • Be able to stay organized, focused and prioritize the work that needs to be accomplished
  • Be able to apply common sense understanding to any situation that may arise
  • Have the confidence to apply your skills within the boundaries of shelter protocols

Our offer:

Hourly wage with a partial benefit package and a compassionate team who genuinely care about each other. We are committed to providing a working environment that is supportive and fun. We work hard, but we strive to enjoy our work every day and remember why we do what we do.

This is a daytime position, 7am - 3:30pm. Hours may vary due to the number of animals in house. Required schedule will include Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as they fall on scheduled shifts. Shifts may also be available midweek from 7am-12pm. Pay range is $14-$16.00/hr and is DOE.

We are looking for a long term, team member who values being part of the HSCO culture and family. The position is part time to start, however, we do promote from within, to full time when/if that is available.

HSCO is a Socially Conscious Shelter and is a vital resource for animals and people in our community. We are deeply committed to both. Services include animal adoptions, reuniting lost pets, lost and found reporting program, pet food assistance, dog licensing, humane education programs and more.
