Job Title: Head Counselor
Status: Part-Time, Seasonal
Reports To: Humane Education Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Humane Society of Chittenden County is looking for a Head Counselor for our humane education youth programs! The Head Counselor is a part-time temporary (seasonal) position serving as the day-to-day coordinator and program director for Camp Paw Paw, HSCC’s humane education camp for children ages 5-12. The Head Counselor must attend a pre-camp training (first week of July) and be available for all of the camp sessions (July 8th-August 16th).
In addition to supporting Camp Paw Paw, the Head Counselor will also have the opportunity to assist with HSCC's other humane education programs: Humane Heroes Workshop (ages 7-8; dates in late February and April) as well as Animal Welfare Warriors (ages 13-15; dates in late June). Availability to assist with these programs is a plus, but not required.
Essential Functions:
- Ensuring the functional operation of each one-week camp session
- Oversee the end of each week of CPP is closed out and the beginning of each camp week is prepped (email to parents, photo album link, daily posting, nametags, cleanliness, contact list for emergencies, etc.)
- Assign checking in and signing out of campers at the beginning and end of each day to one of the CPP counselors or yourself.
- Supervising assistant and junior counselors, if any
- Facilitating all camp activities and working with scheduled guest speakers
- Ensuring a positive, fun, and safe camp experience for all campers
- Serving as a contact for parents, HSCC staff, and other camp partners
- Responsible for becoming familiar with and implementing Camp Paw Paw’s humane education based curriculum
- Assign the daily Instagram post to yourself or another CPP Counselor
- Other duties as assigned and needed
