Medical Assistant

About the Role:

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring smooth and efficient clinical operations. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, recording vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures. The Medical Assistant will also manage administrative tasks such as maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments, and coordinating communication between patients and healthcare staff. By combining clinical and administrative duties, the role contributes significantly to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall patient experience. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant helps create a welcoming and organized environment that supports the center’s mission to provide compassionate and effective healthcare services to the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of experience within the healthcare medical center industry. 
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification.
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems. preferably MD Vita. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in a clinical setting, preferably in a primary care or community health environment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse patient populations.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish, to better serve the local community.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, medical histories, and recording symptoms.
• Assist healthcare providers during examinations and minor procedures by handling instruments and supplies.
• Manage patient records accurately, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Schedule patient appointments, follow up on referrals, and coordinate communication between patients and medical staff.
• Perform basic laboratory tests, administer medications as directed, and maintain clinical equipment and supplies.

The Medical Assistant utilizes clinical skills daily to perform patient assessments, assist with procedures, and conduct basic laboratory tests, ensuring accurate and timely patient care. Administrative skills are essential for managing patient records, scheduling, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, which supports seamless clinic operations. Communication skills enable effective interaction with patients, providers, and team members, fostering a collaborative and compassionate care environment. Organizational skills help prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently in a dynamic clinical setting. Additionally, proficiency with electronic health record systems and medical software is critical for documenting patient information and facilitating coordinated care.
