IMMEDIATE OPENINGS - Domestic Violence Client Advocate

Humboldt Domestic Violence Services (HDVS) has part time Client Advocate positions open, bilingual (Spanish) and non-bilingual. Client advocates are responsible for providing direct services to survivors and their children who seek the assistance of HDVS and its Safe Haven Shelter program. Pay rate based on experience, we offer part time sick leave benefit, and an optional wellness plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct services to clients and the community on our 24-hour support line
  • Crisis intervention, advocacy, and supportive peer counseling
  • Emergency relief including shelter, food, clothing, transportation and miscellaneous provisions
  • Provide referrals
  • Advocacy on behalf of clients to hospitals, law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, other supportive services, etc.
  • Restraining order assistance and court accompaniment
  • Client intake and operation of our client database system
  • Weekly mandatory staff meetings
  • Check-ins with survivors at our shelter locations
  • Community outreach and events

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice and ending all forms of violence.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and brings a positive mindset/attitude.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in crisis and support intervention and peer counseling skills.
  • Degree in Social Science, Psychology, Criminal Justice preferred or one (1) year work experience with community-based domestic violence/victim assistance programs, human services, social services or other related direct services.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and to be confident and firm when enforcing guidelines, policy and procedure.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and overnights.
  • Ability to safely drive a company vehicle to off–site locations.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the agency.
  • Ability to communicate well and work with people of diverse cultural, professional, and experiential backgrounds.

Position is part time (varying shifts, including nights and weekends) with a training schedule that can be up to full-time during the work week! Individuals must pass DOJ Live Scan and DMV report and have or be able to obtain 40-hour DV/IVP certification training after hire with HDVS.
