Engineering Lab Technician

Humphrey Products, a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of fluid-power controls and custom engineered solutions for various OEM markets including biomedical, material handling, transportation, industrial automation, semiconductors, alternative energy, and green technology, has an opening for an Engineering Lab Technician.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Support product engineering on lab work such as:
    • Prototype builds and testing.
    • Validation and durability testing.
    • Work with engineering on development and documentation of standard testing methods.
    • Provide feedback to engineering on methods and test improvements.
    • Design new lab test fixtures as needed to complete testing. Fixtures will be built by toolroom.
  • Support process engineering on lab work such as:
    • Building assembly and test fixtures.
    • Preproduction and qualification builds and testing.
    • Work with engineering on Process Workbooks (PWB) and after initial product builds provide input to assure initial methods for building and testing product are effective.
  • Build and test production parts run thru the engineering labs for customer deliveries.
  • Provide measuring services for experimental parts, partial layouts for problem parts and verification of initial samples.
  • Returned Goods Authorizations (RGA's) products analyzed and verified to specification.
    • Testing and investigation of failure modes associated with RGA’s.
      • Includes measurement of components to assess issues that could contribute to failures.
    • Document findings from testing and investigation in RGA data base.
  • Raise Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and or Material Complaint Notices (MCN’s) as appropriate to drive containment, short term actions and root cause solutions to failures.
  • Analysis of data using Excel or SPC programs for run charts, histograms, etc.
  • Interpretation of SPC data and charts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School degree required, AS or equivalent preferred.
  • Able to work in a Self Managed Work Team environment and follow written or oral instructions.
  • Familiar with laboratory testing equipment such as digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Familiar with leak, flow, resistance and high pot testing of valves or other products a major plus.
  • Familiar with blueprints, including GD&T and their interpretation.
    • If not familiar willing to complete an approved course(s) to meet competency required.
  • Able to use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges and accurately report the results.
    • If not familiar willing to complete an approved course(s) to meet competency required.
  • Understands statistical data analysis and statistical process control (SPC).
    • If not familiar willing to complete an approved course(s) to meet competency required.

Salary : $42,100 - $53,300
