What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Specialist position at Huntington County Humane Society?
Responsibilities:
- Provide care and support to animals in a shelter setting
- Handle animals safely and compassionately, ensuring their well-being at all times
- Provide general pet care, including cleaning, walking, feeding, and administering medications
- Provide exceptional customer service to all shelter guests and partners.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kennel areas
Required Skills
Knowledge of professional and appropriate standard of care with regards to animal wellbeing;
· Knowledge of or the ability to learn and appropriately apply city and state laws regulating the treatment, care, quarantining and impounding of animals;
· Ability to use effective communications skills, both orally and in writing;
· Ability to safely drive an animal control vehicle, if needed;
· Ability to read animal behavior and handle vicious and dangerous animals, or have the ability to be trained to do so;
· Ability to operate a computer, cell phone, office equipment, and animal control related equipment, or be trained to do so;
· Ability to use animal shelter/control related software, or be trained to do so;
· Ability to use various medical instruments, such as a stethoscope, syringes, nebulizer.
