Overview
Job SummaryThe nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice includingobtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering andperforming diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological andother treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such aspatient and family education and counseling. Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect careresponsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research,program development, and quality improvement.
Responsibilities
Key Respon and Essential Functions• Collects patient data through integration from a wide variety of sources to formulate clinicaljudgments and decisions regarding appropriate recommendations and treatments.• Analyzes the assessment data by prioritizing actual and/or potential health carte problems indetermining the diagnosis as the basis for designing interventions to promote the restoration ofhealth.• Collaborates with the health care team for developing the multidisciplinary plan of care.• Participates in the development of a plan of care to guide the multidisciplinary team towardrestoration of health for patients.• Is accountable for planning, implementing, and delegating therapeutic interventions identified in themultidisciplinary plan of care.• Evaluates the patients response to therapeutic interventions and modifies the plan of care to optimizeclinical outcomes.• Establishes and monitors standards of practice to improve patient care in collaboration with otherclinical experts.• Facilitates organizational resources that promote optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications
Education Required• Completion of Nurse Practitioner Master's of Science in Nursing required.
License, Certification and/or Registration• Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP.• Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners.• Approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board.• BLS and ACLS certifications required within 6 months of hire.
