SALARY RANGE: $76,837 - $84,853 annually DOQ
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Chief of Information Technology, the GIS Analyst will perform data management and mapping using ESRI GIS software, GPS equipment, and other related tools. This position will collect and handle location data, provide mapping services, perform technical research and analysis, and coordinate activities. Duties will also include the incorporation of existing property parcel records, infrastructure components, building geospatial data, and supplementary information into a central database for access by a multitude of users. This position will work on multiple initiatives across multiple departments to achieve associated objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serves as the Metroparks technical subject matter expert (SME) for geospatial data, mapping, GIS and ESRI.
- Collaborates with other teams and vendors to implement GIS applications.
- Prepares GIS maps and performs geospatial data analytics as requested by Metroparks staff using ESRI and other GIS software.
- Acquires geospatial and related data from external and internal sources as needed.
- Establishes data management and quality control procedures in coordination with Metroparks GIS and GPS users.
- Identifies and recommends specific GIS tools, data stores and applications needed to improve business operations.
- Supervises installation, upgrades and daily maintenance of GIS applications and tools.
- Assists with developing GIS standards and implementing related policy and procedures.
- Assists / supports special projects across various departments.
- Supports day-to-day operations of GIS applications, including level 1 help desk calls, as needed.
- Represents the Metroparks in meetings with vendors, other governmental agencies and business and professional organizations.
- Serves on employee committees, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field. Applicants with 8 or more years of related service will be given credit toward meeting the minimum educational requirements and will be considered for the position.
- Four or more years of experience in GIS and geospatial data analytics or similar.
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS software and applications, especially in the context of web and mobile apps
- Basic knowledge of data structures and databases.
- Familiarity with analytics software, like Power BI, Tableau or similar, for geospatial data analytics.
- Familiarity with programming in Python and SQL.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD / AutoDesk and other engineering software.
- Ability to troubleshoot and make recommendations as to functionality of GIS applications used by the Planning & Development, Engineering, Natural Resources, and Marketing departments.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public, outside agencies and co-workers.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical users.
- May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs, including special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
- Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Skilled in a variety of computer software applications including spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Ability to perform essential duties.
