About The Role
Hut 8 is seeking a highly skilled and technically driven Director, Data Center Engineering to lead all data center engineering efforts across greenfield developments and the modification of existing assets. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Data Center Development, this role will serve as the technical cornerstone for project execution—bridging sales strategy, engineering design, permitting, and consultant management.
You will oversee multidisciplinary engineering efforts and manage architectural and engineering (A&E) consultants through formal design and permitting phases. With a focus on both innovation and execution, you’ll ensure that every data center development is built on a strong, scalable, and compliant technical foundation.

Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:
Engineering Leadership
- Own all engineering efforts related to data center infrastructure, including greenfield developments and the modification or expansion of existing facilities.
- Lead coordination of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical (CSME) disciplines to deliver integrated, cost-effective, and technically sound solutions.
- Translate sales and solutions engineering inputs into actionable, engineered design programs.
- Collaborate with internal teams to validate technical feasibility, cost, and delivery schedules during early-stage and mid-stage planning.
- Provide technical oversight from site planning through execution to ensure engineering design integrity is maintained throughout the lifecycle.
- Manage architectural and engineering (A&E) consultants from conceptual design through formal permit sets and construction documentation.
- Act as the primary liaison to A&E prime consultants, owning contractual negotiation and coordination of scope under AIA agreements.
- Drive permitting strategy in collaboration with local authorities, consultants, and development teams to ensure full entitlement and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure formal design execution meets Hut 8’s technical standards, local code requirements, and project timelines.
- Interface regularly with legal, real estate, and construction stakeholders to align technical deliverables with broader project milestones.
- 5-10 years of experience in data center, critical infrastructure, or industrial engineering roles.
- Strong technical background across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Experience managing A&E consultants and delivering large-scale infrastructure projects from concept to permit-ready and build-ready status.
- Familiarity with AIA contracts, permitting processes, and jurisdictional design reviews.
- Proven ability to integrate engineering strategies into commercial development initiatives
- Exceptional project leadership and cross-functional communication skills.
- Deep knowledge of data center system design, code compliance, and construction integration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and consultant relationships simultaneously.
- Strategic mindset with a focus on execution, risk mitigation, and scalable infrastructure design.
