Position Description

HGL has a position open for a Project Manager to support our work in the Overland Park, Kansas area. The Project Manager will manage large-scale, multi-year projects for HGL’s government clients, primarily for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and potentially the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Manage and conduct environmental field investigations and remediation projects at hazardous waste sites, both in the Overland Park area and nationwide.
  • Develop project budgets based on scope and develop project schedules to meet performance and payment milestones. Ability to direct, manage, and lead project teams to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Direct, manage, and lead project teams to meet project objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, field crews, subcontracts, and company management.
  • Data analysis and the interpretation of field and analytical data.
  • Management of technical and administrative aspects of CERCLA reports, including reviewing and authoring technical reports, specifically Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Remedial Designs, Remedial Action Work Plans, or similar phases of environmental restoration projects. Other report-related tasks may include calculations, overseeing the development and review of maps, drawings, and specifications, data collection, data entry and analysis, oversight of field operations, subcontractor procurement, project management, and cost estimation.
  • Manage project risks and develop mitigation approaches and strategies.
  • Support business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts and preparing cost estimates.
  • Play a key role in mentoring, supervising, and developing staff.
  • Periodic business travel may be required. Travel is anticipated to consist of visits to client offices and project sites. Travel is expected up to 15% of the year.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Minimum 4 years of experience executing and managing investigation and remediation projects, which must include extensive experience managing environmental projects for the EPA, DoD, and/or DOE, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • BS in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related environmental field of study.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and oral communication skills required. The successful candidate will show directly relevant experience that demonstrates a history of responsibility, initiative, motivation, and creative problem solving.
  • Be willing to participate in project technical tasks ranging from fieldwork and field operations; development of specifications; and data management, evaluation, and report preparation.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite required.
  • Knowledge of appropriate methodologies for groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment sampling at CERCLA and RCRA sites.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
  • Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

  • Experience working on EPA contracts. EPA Superfund experience, including direct experience working with EPA Region 7, is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of CERCLA process and work phases is strongly desired.
  • Leadership skills including prior experience mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Current and valid 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER certification, up to date annual 8-hr OSHA refresher certification (as applicable).
  • Professional credential (e.g., PE, PG and/or PMP).
  • Experience with MS Project.
  • MS in a related field.

The salary range for this position ranges from $81,929 - $122,894. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
