General Summary:

Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, and implementing a comprehensive recreation program. This position will oversee Rec Trac administration, contracts, policies and procedures, and budgets.  Areas of responsibility will focus on community partnerships, youth and adult recreation programming, recreation registrations, rentals, and front desk operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and serve as the main point of contact for Rec Trac, the District’s recreation program system.  This includes system updates, problem solving, integration of hardware and software solutions, training new and current staff, and developing and administering policies and procedures.
  2. Supervise a team and assist recreation professionals with program areas which may include youth and adult sports, field/court/pavilion rentals, concessions, special interests, community cultural events, gymnastics, fitness and building and field maintenance.  Effectively recruit, lead, manage, communicate, train and develop staff.
  3. Prepare and monitor budgets, manage revenues and expenditures and prepare financial and Board reports; prepare purchase orders and invoice payment requests; prepare short and long-range revenue/expenditure projections and monitor revenue streams; calculate program fees to meet cost-recovery goals.
  4. Seek and build partnerships to leverage community reach.  Assist with pursuing and administering grants and enhanced funding opportunities.
  5. Identify opportunities to increase efficiency in recreation programming and implement necessary changes.
  6. Actively promote recreation programs with the Hyland Hills brand within the local community by working with the Marketing Department and by using other software applications.
  7. Ensure and monitor compliance with all policies, safety procedures and District standards.
  8. Assess & manage safety requirements with regards to the facility security cameras, alarm system, keys and Emergency Action Plan.
  9. Manage facility and park maintenance and facility equipment to ensure proper operation for safety and cleanliness; understand all new trends and operation with equipment; coordinate cleaning of the facility with staff and contracted companies.
  10. Conduct business to meet the objectives of the District Strategic Plan.
  11. Determine community needs by evaluating programs and activities: make recommendations for improvement and future development and implement changes.
  12. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; keep up to date with new trends and innovations in the recreation field.
  13. Responsible for being up to date with current District policies and procedures and enforcement.
  14. Additional duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works periodically on special projects as assigned by the Recreation Manager outside the context of recreation, but for which the incumbent possesses the ability to perform adequately.
  2. Actively participates in state and national professional organizations, and affiliated organizations to promote recreation and Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District.
  3. Attends training sessions, workshops, staff meetings, and conferences, as assigned.
  4. Performs all other duties as assigned.

  1. Advanced knowledge of Rec Trac and Microsoft Office Software with strong computer literacy and ability to quickly learn other applications.
  2. Strong business acumen with the ability to implement and manage cost recovery strategies.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  1. Frequent standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, running and walking.
  2. Occasional sitting and typing.
  3. Strength requires handling heavy weight (up to 75 lbs.), people, materials or equipment.
  4. Other requirements include talking, hearing, and seeing to perform the following necessary duties.
  5. Teach programs and supervise others, operating office equipment including but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax and telephones.
  6. Normal recreation facility conditions for most of the work may include occasional light and temperature variations.
  7. Exposure to noise, dust, sweat, heat and cold.
  8. Must have the ability to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in recreation management, business administration, public administration, or related field.
  2. Minimum of five years’ experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training preferred.
  3. Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  4. Must be CPR/AED certified.
