What are the responsibilities and job description for the Actuarial Analyst position at IAT Insurance Group, Inc.?
IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for an Actuarial Analyst to support our Inland Marine, Property, Aviation, Programs, and Reinsurance business units as a member of IAT’s Corporate Actuarial Department. This role will focus primarily on insurance Pricing but will also have exposure to Reserving practices. The candidate will report to an office in Naperville, IL or Scottsdale, AZ or Cheshire, CT. We will consider other IAT office locations like Rolling Meadows, Newark, or Raleigh for the right candidate.
IAT Insurance Group Actuaries can enroll in IAT’s Actuarial Development Program - a program designed to support staff with study time and actuarial resource to prepare for exams.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience, at least 3 exams and a desire to support business unit leaders while growing their knowledge, abilities, and skills as an actuary and a business partner. Experience with commercial property and rate filing experience is helpful.
Responsibilities:
- Produces rate adequacy reports to assist business in understanding profitability and rate need.
- Develops rate-making templates and provide support for state-by-state rate filings.
- Develops and maintains technical pricing tools.
- Maintains reports to accurately measure rate, retention, and new business growth.
- Estimates and recommends loss reserves to be carried in the company’s financial statements.
- Collaborates with underwriting, claims, IT and senior management to develop plans for new products or improvements to existing products and procedures.
- Gathers data, analyze information, and makes recommendations/decisions to solve problems. Interprets the meaning of information for others within the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience or the equivalent is required.
- Equivalent experience is defined as having 6 years of relevant actuarial experience in the P&C Insurance environment.
- 4 or more Actuary Exams completed & passed required
- Able to work independently and has strong oral and written communication capabilities.
- Able to proactively identify opportunities or problems and to facilitate understanding and solution development.
- Able to demonstrate highly skilled analytical and conceptual thinking.
- Able to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Able to build and maintain a network of relationships.
- Able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Able to demonstrate a history of taking the initiative, being a self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working Knowledge of EXCEL VBA, SQL, or R is preferred
