OBJECTIVE:
To work as a team member for a leading electrical contractor as an Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for supervising, monitoring, and evaluating payroll and accounts payable activities. They will also be responsible for establishing financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting payroll and financial information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:

- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Payroll and Accounts Payable areas of the accounting department, including direct reports – Payroll Manager, Accounting Manager, Accounts Payable Lead, Accounts Payable Administrator, Accounting Project Assistant, and Purchasing and Accounts Payable Support.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of Payroll items, including weekly Admin and Communication payroll, union reporting, verification of employment, unemployment claims, monthly, quarterly, and year-end procedures, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of Accounts Payable items including check runs, subcontract payments, lease payments, invoices, purchase orders, and year-end reporting.
- File monthly, quarterly, and annual sales/use taxes.
- Complete monthly bank account reconciliations.
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
- Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Assign projects and direct personnel in the payroll and accounts payable departments to ensure compliance and accuracy.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Proven working experience as an Assistant Controller or related position.
- Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software, and databases (Vista Viewpoint).
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
- Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to direct and supervise.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- 5 years of relevant accounting experience and progressive leadership experience.
- Union payroll processing preferred
- Experience with filing multi-state payroll taxes.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Proficient in MS Office applications with strong skills in computerized accounting software. (Viewpoint Vista preferred)
Other:
- Must be able to present acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorizations per the Federal I-9 requirement.
BASE LOCATION, TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Office assignment: York
- Occasional travel is as necessary to other offices or yard locations, training, and offsite meetings.
- Additional customer-related travel may also be required at customer facilities.
SAFETY/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- All IB Abel vehicles or employee-owned vehicles are required to abide by the “First Move Forward” parking policy while on IB Abel offices, yards, Ops Centers, or property.
- The work is performed in an office environment with minimal noise, depending upon the operation of various office equipment; this will include phones, scanners, copiers, etc.
- Physical demands include walking, sitting, bending, stooping, vision – close and distant with or without corrective lenses, lifting – 25 pounds minimum.
- Capable of operating various types of office equipment including but not limited to computers, copiers, and scanners.
