Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Early Childhood Services, the Assistant Teacher develops and implements lesson plans in accordance with the children's developmental level.
High School Diploma, College degree preferred, with Child Development Associate certification (CDA).
The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 40 lbs. And frequent sitting.
Under the supervision of the Director of Early Childhood Services, the Assistant Teacher develops and implements lesson plans in accordance with the children's developmental level.
- Reports directly to the Director of Early Childhood Services.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with Ibero staff, staff from related agencies and parents.
- Assists the Head Teacher in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program.
- Assist in performing initial assessment of children to determine child's progress and update educational programs accordingly using the COR.
- Communicates with parents regularly to inform them about children's progress.
- Assists in organizing and maintaining classroom to ensure that it is pleasant, clean and safe.
- Assists in preparing environment to enhance children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.
- Follows Ibero's policies and procedures and NYS regulations.
- Assists in maintaining attendance records, weekly plans and other required documents as assigned.
- Informs the Head Teacher and Director of Early Childhood Services of any parent concern.
- Encourages and helps the children develop a positive self-image in an atmosphere of love and trust and guides children in a positive manner.
- Supervises and ensures the safety of all children.
- Coordinates special activities or field trips.
- Assists with minor cleaning duties as assigned by the Head Teacher or the Preschool Coordinator.
- Reports to the Director of Early Childhood Services any required maintenance and/or repair work in classroom.
- Completes all work in a timely manner.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings, parent meetings, staff training and other center events as assigned.
- Keeps knowledge of children and families confidential.
- Continues to develop professionally.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Services.
High School Diploma, College degree preferred, with Child Development Associate certification (CDA).
- Demonstrated knowledge of child development, early childhood education and appropriate discipline methods.
- Experience working with infants, toddlers or preschoolers.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Must have clearance through the NYS Central Registry.A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may be considered.
