Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Maintenance Equipment Operator for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to perform a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks involved in the operation of automotive and related maintenance. Transports patients to and from treatment sessions, residential wards, placement visits, etc. Monitors the ongoing maintenance of Stated owned vehicles assigned to Elgin Mental Health Center. Performs simple repairs and adjustments to vehicles. Picks up and delivers supplies and other material from the central stores.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks involved in the operation of automotive and related maintenance of Elgin Mental Health Center.
- Monitors the ongoing maintenance of state-owned vehicles assigned to Elgin Mental Health Center.
- Performs simple repairs and adjustments to vehicles.
- Operates mowing equipment, tractors, snowplows, trucks, end loaders, buses, and other motorized equipment.
- Transports laundry to and from other Department of Human Services (DHS)/Office of Mental Health (OMH) facilities.
- Picks up and delivers supplies and other material from the central stores.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires one (1) year’s experience in performing a variety of semiskilled mechanical and manual tasks in the maintenance and operation of automotive or related maintenance equipment.
- Requires a valid Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
