Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician IV for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to function as shift charge technician for a designated living area. Coordinates and maintains accountability for a designated living area by assigning staff to ensure for adequate group/shift coverage. Assigns break/mealtimes, completes documentation for staffing needs. Ensures the implementation of group and individual schedules. Ensures work environment is clean, safe and secure. Directs social and recreational activities and assists in established treatment and development programs. Ensures compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requirements, Department of Human Services (DHS) and facility policies and procedures. Serves as a working supervisor to lower-level staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Functions as shift charge technician for a living or work area, on an assigned unit, on an assigned shift.
- Serves as a working supervisor.
- Provides and/or monitors personal care services for individuals such as bathing, feeding, toileting, food distribution and dressing.
- Provides and/or monitors the provision of services associated with the individual’s healthcare needs in accord with each individual’s treatment plan and as specified by the physician/nurse.
- Completes shift charge reports and forms in a timely manner.
- Ensures work environment is clean, safe and secure in accord with IDPH requirements and facility policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of an approved training program and one (1) year experience in or applicable to the care, treatment and habilitation of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays on a rotation basis.

Requires the ability to perform heavy lifting, carrying and pushing of wheelchairs and to lift, turn and reposition individuals.

Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
