Position Overview
Under direct supervision of the Chief Engineer performs preventive and repairs on mechanical areas at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. Monitors and adjusts all aspects of the HVAC system daily. Performs repairs on mechanical areas, including but not limited to, HVAC, domestic water, sewers, power plant equipment, generators, dietary equipment, etc. Serves as a liaison. Maintains daily logs and prepares reports on gauge readings, fuel consumed, power generated, maintenance work performed and similar information. Conducts daily testing of boiler water and pool water.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical areas, including but not limited to HVAC, domestic water, sewers, power plant equipment, generators, dietary equipment, etc.

- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years elementary school.
- Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low pressure stationary boilers.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Work Hours: Various shifts. See below.
(1) Tuesday - Friday 12:00pm- 8:00pm, Saturday 8:00am - 4:00pm
(1) Monday - Thursday 2:00pm - 10:00pm, Sunday 8:00am - 4:00pm
