Position Summary
The Business Manager is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for managing the financial, operational, admissions, and administrative functions of the school. This role includes oversight of business operations, financial planning and reporting, human resources administration, facilities management, basic technology coordination, and support for marketing and admissions. The Business Manager ensures that facilities needs are addressed promptly and effectively, and handles all vendor and contractor clearance to maintain compliance and safety standards. The role works closely with the Head of School, staff, board members, and external partners to ensure efficient, compliant, and mission-aligned operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee tuition billing, accounts payable, payroll, HR administration, accounting, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Prepare and present accurate financial reports to the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
  • Coordinate the annual budget process and multi-year financial forecasting.
  • Manage operational aspects of the admissions process and support marketing logistics.
  • Oversee all facilities needs, including maintenance scheduling, repairs, and safety compliance.
  • Handle vendor and contractor clearance, including background checks and compliance verification.
  • Maintain compliance calendars, insurance coverage, and vendor coordination.
  • Support fundraising administration and donor acknowledgment.
  • Manage basic technology systems and liaise with IT vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in finance, operations, or administrative leadership (school or nonprofit preferred).
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Workspace; familiarity with Ravenna, Gusto, and other school platforms a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
