Job Description:
Imani House is seeking a Bookkeeper Apprentice (Students are encouraged to apply). Position overview includes: Gaining experience and learning the profession of bookkeeping through on-the-job engagement and mentorship, typically under the guidance of an experienced financial manager. This person will assist with tasks that include recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing reports, while gaining practical experience. They will help maintain our financial records which includes purchases, sales, receipts and payments. They will work closely with the Executive Director, the Administrative Staff and our CPA Team to process and turn over records, prepare in-house financial reports, and track all financial transactions including assisting with payroll preparation. Our ideal candidate has some experience with financial record keeping, an interest in the practice of bookkeeping, and or some educational exposure to financial record keeping. Some Familiarity with Quick Books is a plus. Ultimately, the Bookkeeper’s responsibilities are to accurately record all day-to-day financial transactions of our company. There is opportunity for growth.
Responsibilities
- Record day to day financial transactions and create spreadsheets the record all expenditure paid and pending
- Verify that transactions are recorded
- Learn to read financial reports, trial balances and annual financial reports
- Perform partial checks of the posting process - Assist to create more effective systems of recording expenses and income
- Enter data, maintain records and lunch reports and bi-weekly payrolls report for submission to payroll company
- Process accounts receivable/payable and handle payroll in a timely manner
- Assist with tracking of funds donated in fundraising campaigns
Requirements
- Interest in advancing skills in the practice of bookkeeping
- Some experience in financial record keeping
- Ability to gain a solid understanding of basic bookkeeping
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
- Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and software
- Proficiency in English and in MS Office
- Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Reliable, proficient and able to work in a team.
- Bookkeeping or financial record keeping experience a plus
- Associates degree or higher
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.50 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 12 per week
