Core of the Role
The Nutrition Business Director is responsible for leading all commercial and business developmental activities for the Nutrition Industry (Sports Nutrition, Early Life Nutrition & Medical Nutrition) in the United States. The ideal candidate is a technical thought leader with in-depth knowledge of the industry and the dynamics, is well connected and is a relationship builder. This role has full strategic responsibility for the Nutrition business in identifying portfolio and business opportunities, assigning resources and working with the supplier and customer base to drive profitable revenue growth. This candidate will be building strategic customer business relationships with brand owners as well as co-manufacturers, managing a commercial team, identifying gaps and sourcing new suppliers as well as providing vision for sales strategies for the Nutrition business segment.
Expected Qualification/Education
Bachelor’s degree in Science or related Technology, ideally complemented with a Business Degree
Work Experience
10 years or more experience in the Nutrition or Nutra Industry with increasing responsibility in managing business and or sales activities. An ideal candidate has experience in working with the co-manufacturers and nutrition brand owner in a sales management or commercial capacity and has extensive relationships in the industry.
Targeted Skills & Capabilities
Strong experience in all aspects of nutrition ingredient or product sales with knowledge and connections with both the brand and contract manufacturers.
Thorough understanding of nutrition trends and market drivers, a content expert in Nutrition or Nutra Industry. Strong technical expertise in Nutrition applications and ingredients.
Experience in developing growth strategies, distribution channel management, account development, and business planning.
Excellent leadership skills to inspire, motivate and train commercial and technical employees located in dispersed locations.
A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and customers.
Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a sales force.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and financial practices.
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
Strong collaboration & influencing skills, with excellent business acumen and understanding of financial metrics
High level of proficiency with Microsoft tools and ideally Salesforce.com
Job Duties
Develop and drive the nutrition sales strategy throughout the US
Responsible for talent acquisition and development
Develop a sales team to drive profitable growth throughout the Nutrition account base.
Close collaboration with our Nutrition Category Business Director (responsible for supplier portfolio management and supplier development) to identify and address portfolio gaps, principal profitability and activity, conflict management and resolution, setting priorities and focus products.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of market share and developing trends in the nutrition space.
Plan and execute Nutrition focused marketing strategy including trade show appearances in conjunction with Technical Director, Marketing Director and Sales Management.
Develop, manage, and nurture new business accounts and partnerships to accomplish profit and volume goals.
Collaborate with the senior leadership team to develop short- and long-term strategic plans, including the preparation of annual business plans.
Provide input in sales and operations planning – including growth, competitive analysis, market trends, and business environment – for strategic planning processes.
